This information is important to support public safety. When reporting the location of a railroad crossing in an emergency situation to a 911 authority the location identifier given to 911 should be the aardot code found in this dataset. That is the official location identifier that the National Rail Transportation System uses to identify individual railroad crossings. They do not use street/highway names to locate crossings.
